When something is not right
Almost everything that looks broken in Doorbook turns out to be one of the following. If yours is not here, write to us — a real person answers.
Doorbook will not accept a meter reading
It refuses any reading lower than last month's, because a utility meter only counts up. If the meter rolled past its last digit or has been replaced, edit the room and set its opening reading to the new meter's figure instead of forcing the reading in.
The bill is far larger than it should be
Check the room's opening reading. A baseline left at zero tells Doorbook the room consumed the meter's entire lifetime reading in one month. Edit the room, set the opening figure to what the meter actually read at the start of the month, and the bill corrects itself.
A room has no bill at all
A bill exists only once both meters have been read. If only electricity is in, the room stays unread and is not billed for rent either. A room with no tenant is vacant and is deliberately left out of billing until somebody moves in.
The bill includes an amount I do not recognise
It is likely to be a brought-forward line — whatever was still unpaid when you closed last month is carried onto this bill automatically. The other possibility is an adjustment left on the room; both are shown as their own lines with the note you wrote.
My rooms are not on my other device
Both devices must be signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive on. Sync also travels in a small key-value store, so a very large book with years of history can outgrow it — that is what Pro's iCloud backup is for. Lease document scans never sync; they stay on the device that took them.
I have lost my phone — is the ledger gone?
If you were a Pro subscriber with backup on, install Doorbook on the new device, sign into the same Apple ID, and restore from a restore point in Settings → Data & backup. Ten restore points are kept, and lease photographs come back with them. Without a backup, and with the old device gone, there is nothing anyone can recover — we have no copy of your data.
I closed the cycle by mistake
Doorbook keeps an undo record of the state immediately before the last close, so a cycle closed in error can be put back. Do it as soon as you notice; it is a safety net for the immediate mistake, not a general way to travel back through months.
The payment QR is not being accepted
Check the account details in Settings → Payment against your own banking app, and scan the code yourself before sending it to a tenant. For a custom QR, the amount is not written into the code and the tenant types it in from the total shown beside it.
The currency is wrong
Doorbook picks a currency from your app language, and you can override it in Settings. The choice is independent of the language, so you can read the app in English and bill in baht.
I paid for Pro and it is not unlocked
Use Restore purchases in the app's settings while signed into the Apple ID you bought it with. Subscriptions live in your Apple account rather than with us, so this is almost always an Apple ID mismatch.
Nothing here?
Write to us and say what you were doing and what happened instead. Include the room and the month if it is about a figure — it is the fastest route to an answer.
